WTA Finals: Anisimova Earns a Reprieve and Sends Rybakina to the Semifinals
Beaten in her opening match on Saturday, the American responded with authority against Madison Keys. Thanks to this victory, she keeps her qualification chances intact... and allows Elena Rybakina to be qualified for the next round of the tournament.
Amanda Anisimova remains in the hunt at these WTA Finals. In the survival duel of the Serena Williams group, the world No. 4 overcame her compatriot Madison Keys (4-6, 6-3, 6-2) after being down a break in the second set.
With her back against the wall, Anisimova regained precision and aggression to secure the first victory of her career in the tournament. This success allows her to maintain a chance of qualifying for the semifinals.
Meanwhile, Madison Keys, already eliminated, once again struggled with her serve (12 double faults, only 55% of points won behind her first serve).
Thanks to this victory by Anisimova, Elena Rybakina is officially the first player qualified for the semifinals and also secures the top spot in the group.
