US Open semifinalist Auger-Aliassime withdraws from Davis Cup tie against Israel

Félix Auger-Aliassime has just put together an impressive Cincinnati–US Open run. A quarterfinalist in Ohio against Jannik Sinner, the Canadian, ranked 27th in the world before the US Open, reached the final four in New York.

During his run, he notably eliminated Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev, and Alex De Minaur in succession to reach the semifinals, where he fell once again to the world number one.

Two high-quality tournaments that will allow him to return to the ATP top 15 this Monday. In the meantime, the 25-year-old player, likely fatigued from the considerable efforts made in recent weeks, will ultimately not represent his country in the upcoming Davis Cup Group I (equivalent to the second division) tie.

Although he was initially selected by his captain Frank Dancevic for the match against Israel scheduled for September 12 and 13, the former world number 6 will ultimately not be present in Halifax.

Therefore, Gabriel Diallo, Liam Draxl, Alexis Galarneau, and Cleeve Harper will represent their nation in the coming days, pending the arrival of a potential replacement who will join the team, according to Tennis Up To Date.

Right. Israel is allowed to play. Russia isn't. Make it make sense.
