Retro – "You've beaten me too much!", the duel between Alcaraz and Zverev at the 2024 Masters

Retro – You've beaten me too much!, the duel between Alcaraz and Zverev at the 2024 Masters

On November 15, 2024, during the ATP Finals, after an intense face-off, Alexander Zverev got his revenge on Carlos Alcaraz.

On the indoor court in Turin, Zverev delivered a solid and controlled performance: he won in two sets, 7-6(5), 6-4. According to the official ATP report, he hit nine aces and won 73% of the points behind his first serve. But that's not all, as this victory marks a particularly symbolic win for him, after the two painful defeats he suffered against the Spaniard this year.

First in the quarter-finals of Indian Wells (6-3, 6-1) but especially in the final of Roland-Garros (6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2). A disappointment, his second in a Major final after the loss at the 2020 US Open where he led two sets to 0 against Thiem (2-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6).

And at the end of the match, the exchange between the two men illustrates it well. While shaking his opponent's hand, Zverev let out, not without a smile: "You've beaten me too often this year." Later, in a press conference, he explained: "He beat me in important matches, so I'm happy to have finally won one."

Currently, even if the gap seems significant between the two players, it's important to remember that their head-to-head record is even (6-6).
