End of the road for Rakotomanga in Guangzhou: French player falls in the round of 16 against Volynets
Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonah will not play in the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 tournament in Guangzhou.
In her first main draw tournament since winning the title in São Paulo in September, Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonah, a lucky loser, had successfully navigated her first-round match against Polina Kudermetova (1-6, 6-1, 6-2), earning herself a round of 16 match against Katie Volynets.
After three consecutive, rather disappointing WTA 125 tournaments, the 19-year-old player wanted to regain confidence and secure a second victory against a top 100 player in this tournament. Unfortunately, against the world number 98, things did not go as planned in the final round of 16 match.
More consistent on her service games, the 23-year-old player won in two sets (6-3, 6-3 in 1 hour 23 minutes) and advances to the quarter-finals where she will face Zhang Shuai, who defeated Veronika Erjavec (3-6, 6-3, 6-2). As for the French player, she was ranked 129th before the tournament and provisionally climbs to 122nd place in the Live Rankings.
