0-5 and 3 match points saved: the feat of a young Frenchwoman
Competing in the WTA 250 in São Paulo, the young French player Tiantsoa Sarah Rakotomanga Rajaonah delivered a remarkable performance against Mexico's Ana Sofia Sanchez (ranked 179th).
At 19 years old, the world number 214 overcame a 0-5 deficit in the third set to ultimately win (6-4, 4-6, 7-6) after a 2-hour and 54-minute battle. The left-handed player even had to save three match points.
A quarterfinalist in Rouen this season (defeated by Lamens), Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonah played the first round at Roland-Garros and recently in the US Open qualifiers: each time defeated by a Spanish player.
Now qualified for the second round in Brazil, she will face another local player, Victoria Rodriguez (ranked 411th).
