20 wins and zero losses in Wuhan: Sabalenka joins an exclusive circle on the WTA tour since 1990
Aryna Sabalenka has qualified for the semifinals of the WTA 1000 in Wuhan. Already crowned champion in the Chinese city in 2018, 2019, and 2024, the world number one dominated Elena Rybakina (6-3, 6-3) to reach the semifinals.
This latest victory brings her record to 20 wins and still no losses in Wuhan since the start of her career. Before facing Jessica Pegula in the final four and hoping to secure a fourth title in this tournament, Sabalenka has already made history.
Indeed, since 1990, only three players had achieved the feat of winning, at minimum, their first twenty matches in the same WTA tournament without ever tasting defeat.
Before Sabalenka in Wuhan, Monica Seles won her first 33 matches at the Australian Open, Steffi Graf emerged victorious from her first 25 matches in Leipzig, while Caroline Wozniacki did the same by winning her first 20 matches in New Haven.
