In the first round of the ATP 250 tournament in Chengdu, sixth seed Mpetshi Perricard faced Filip Misolic, ranked 92nd in the world. The Frenchman, a semifinalist in Winston-Salem, had subsequently bowed out in the first round of the US Open against Lorenzo Musetti and wanted to rebound nearly a month after his last match.

After a challenging start, the 36th ATP-ranked player finally found the key to turn the situation around. Comfortable with returns (13 break points obtained), the Frenchman logically took control to win in three sets (3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in 1h43).

With 9 aces in this match against the Austrian, the 22-year-old player bounced back after his defeat in New York and reached the round of 16 of the Chinese tournament. He could face Gaël Monfils if the latter overcomes Alexander Shevchenko later in the day.
