After Bastad, Darderi Continues with a New Title in Umag
Fresh off his victory in Bastad last Sunday, Luciano Darderi made a seamless transition on the clay courts of Umag.
The Italian, ranked 46th in the world, faced Carlos Taberner in an attempt to secure his third title of the season and his second in a row. Up against an opponent who had never reached an ATP final before this week, Darderi lived up to his favorite status and won 6-3, 6-3 in just over an hour of play.
By completing the Bastad-Umag double, he will climb eleven spots in the rankings on Monday, reaching a career-high of 35th. With a spot in the Toronto Masters 1000 draw, he will likely make a decision about his participation in the coming hours.
