After more than a year away, Venus Williams makes her return to competition
To the delight of tennis fans, legend Venus Williams has announced her return to the court. More than a year after her last appearance, the American will compete in the 2025 Washington tournament, scheduled for July 19–27.
Invited by the organizers, the American has decided to head to the U.S. capital to play in this WTA 500 event. The big question remains: what form will she be in for her first competitive match?
At 45 years old, Venus Williams last competed at the 2024 WTA 1000 in Miami before disappearing from the WTA tour. A seven-time Grand Slam champion, she will now play her 1,097th professional match.
As a reminder, she had also announced her participation in the Charlotte Invitational, set for December 4 in North Carolina, alongside fellow Americans Keys, Fritz, and Tiafoe.
