After several withdrawals, Monfils confirms his participation in Hamburg
In great form at the start of the year with a title in Auckland and reaching the round of 16 at the Australian Open and Miami, Gaël Monfils hit a snag during this clay-court season.
The world No. 43 has played only three matches on clay, with a right foot injury forcing him to withdraw from the Munich tournament before being sidelined by a virus in Madrid. He followed this with another withdrawal in Rome, likely as a precaution.
On his Snapchat account, Monfils posted a short video confirming his return to competition will take place in Hamburg next week: "My next tournament will be Hamburg. I’m leaving this weekend, and then we’ll prepare for Roland-Garros."
The Frenchman hopes to regain good form on clay before competing at Roland-Garros for the 18th time in his career.
