Alcaraz dispatches Nishioka to reach the third round of the Australian Open

Carlos Alcaraz has no time to lose. The Spaniard, number 3 in the world, is hoping to win the only Grand Slam tournament missing from his trophy cabinet.

A three-set winner over Alexander Shevchenko in his opening match, Alcaraz was looking for confirmation against Yoshihito Nishioka.

In control from start to finish, the four-time Grand Slam winner gave his outmatched opponent no chance, scoring just 7 winners throughout the match.

Without conceding a single break point, Alcaraz (36 winners, 16 unforced errors and 14 aces) won 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 in just 1h20 of play.

The 21-year-old Spaniard now faces a third round tie against Nuno Borges. The Portuguese defeated Jordan Thompson (6-3, 6-2, 6-4) to earn the right to face Alcaraz for a place in the second week of the Australian Open.

"The fact that I can win all the Grand Slams is one of the reasons why I want to win this tournament one day.

The goal is to be able to add my name to a very closed circle. I work every day to be ready for this moment.

I hope it will be this year. But we have to take it one step at a time. We'll see how things develop.

Right now, all I'm thinking about is the next round. Of course, I hope to go even further," commented Alcaraz after his success.
