Alcaraz on Fonseca's performance: "Simply incredible".
Carlos Alcaraz was present at the press conference after his relatively easy victory over Yoshihito Nishioka 6-0, 6-1, 6-4.
The Spaniard was asked about the performance of Joao Fonseca, who beat Rublev in three sets on Tuesday in his first Grand Slam match.
Alcaraz replied: "I watched a bit, yes. I couldn't see the whole match, but I saw the beginning and the end. What can I say? Simply incredible.
The way he played his first Grand Slam match against a top-10 player was impressive. The way he approached the match, the way he handled everything, the way he kept his nerves under control, it was fantastic.
He's someone I have to be careful with. I've got to keep an eye on him. He'll be there.
It's only the beginning of the year, he's only got one Grand Slam win, but he'll be there.
Let's put Joao Fonseca's name on the list of the world's best players very soon."
