Alcaraz drops a set against Struff but advances to the Wimbledon quarterfinals
Carlos Alcaraz continues his title defense at Wimbledon by defeating Jan-Lennard Struff (6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4) in the third round.
After a shaky start against Fabio Fognini, where he had to battle for over four hours, Alcaraz corrected course in the second round against Oliver Tarvet. Against Struff, the world No. 2 seemed in control after taking the first set and securing an early break in the second, but he hit a rough patch, losing five of the next six games.
With the match tied at one set apiece, Alcaraz regained the lead, aided by his opponent's 38 unforced errors and 10 double faults. Without necessarily shining but remaining clutch in key moments (6 breaks converted out of 12 opportunities), the defending champion now moves on to face Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals.
