Alcaraz: "I am always nervous when I start a tournament"

Carlos Alcaraz had no major issues in his opening match at Indian Wells against Quentin Halys.

The two-time defending champion spoke at a press conference. He stated: "I am always nervous when I start a tournament.

I have played these tournaments many times, but every year it feels a bit new. I think it was the first time I faced Halys, so I didn’t know how it would go at the beginning.

That’s also why I was a bit nervous. There’s also extra pressure because it’s a tournament where I really want to go far."

Alcaraz will face Denis Shapovalov in the next round at Indian Wells.
