Alcaraz misses reunion with Sinner in Shanghai!
The long-awaited clash between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will not take place in the semi-finals in Shanghai. The Spaniard crashed out in the quarter-finals of the tournament on Thursday, beaten by the Czech Tomas Machac, ranked 33rd in the world but in fine form at present, in just under two hours (7/6[5], 7/5).
Prior to that, Sinner had dispatched Daniil Medvedev fairly comfortably (6-1, 6-4). The Italian, number 1 in the world, therefore thought he had the chance to take his revenge on the Spaniard against whom he had lost after a huge battle in the final in Beijing (6-7, 6-4, 7-6) a week ago. But it was not to be.
On Friday, the other two quarter-finals will pit Taylor Fritz against David Goffin, and Jakub Mensik against Novak Djokovic.
