Alcaraz overcomes Djere to reach the round of 16 in Rome
Carlos Alcaraz secured his place in the round of 16 of the Rome Masters 1000 on Sunday. Facing Laslo Djere, the world No. 3 had to battle through a tight first set before taking control of the match and winning 7-6, 6-2 in 1 hour and 43 minutes.
Djere had a chance to claim the first set on his serve at 6-5, but moments later, Alcaraz used his skill to break back and clinch the tie-break in impressive fashion. The second set was a straightforward affair for the Spaniard, as he quickly pulled ahead with a double break.
Sloppy at times (28 unforced errors in total) but also capable of producing shots that frustrated his opponent, Alcaraz will need to raise his level for his upcoming round of 16 clash against Karen Khachanov.
