Moutet on his epic victory against Rune: "This is the biggest win of my career in terms of ranking"
After a 3-hour and 43-minute battle on the Pietrangeli court, Corentin Moutet defeated Holger Rune (7-5, 5-7, 7-6) to advance to the round of 16 at the Rome Masters 1000.
In statements relayed by *L’Équipe*, the Frenchman expressed his satisfaction at having won such a tightly contested match until the very end:
"I didn’t have many lows today, I was really consistent. I stuck to my game plan, I believed in myself from the first point to the last. I’m happy to have held up physically in such a long match.
This is the biggest win of my career in terms of ranking. It comes after a few tough months in terms of results, and I’m happy."
Moutet was also asked about the significance of his first victory against a Top 10 player:
"I think it’s a good sign when you beat a player at that level. That said, it’s just one win, so the tournament continues. You can’t be satisfied with just this. You have to keep a level head and keep working.
Of course, beating one of the top ten players in the world is a great win. It shows that doing things the right way pays off. I’m happy for myself and my team."
