Alcaraz passes the Rublev test and joins Norrie in the Wimbledon quarterfinals
At just 22 years old, Carlos Alcaraz is now just three wins away from securing a third consecutive title on the grass courts of Wimbledon.
Undefeated since the Rome tournament in May, the world No. 2 extended his winning streak to 22 matches by defeating Andrey Rublev (6-7, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4) in the round of 16. He relied on an exceptionally strong serve, firing 22 aces and winning 82% of points behind his first serve.
Rublev, who had beaten Alcaraz on the clay courts of Madrid last year, tried his best to unsettle the two-time defending champion, but it wasn’t enough. Still, he can take pride in his London campaign, having arrived low on confidence after a second-round exit in Halle.
Alcaraz will now face Cameron Norrie for a spot in the semifinals.
