Alcaraz saves three match points and drags Sinner into a fifth set!
A spectacular scenario unfolded in this Roland-Garros final. Trailing two sets to love against Jannik Sinner (6-4, 7-6), Carlos Alcaraz managed to turn the tide by clinching the third set 6-4 before leveling the score with a magnificent fourth set.
The world No. 2 had to save three match points on his serve at 5-3, 40-0 in Sinner's favor. A pivotal moment in the final, as the Italian then faltered in his next service game, leaving the fate of the set to be decided in a tie-break. Riding the momentum, Alcaraz erased a mini-break deficit and won it 7-3.
He boasts a 12-1 record in five-set matches throughout his career, though he had never before overcome a two-sets-to-love deficit. As for Sinner, he has never won a match lasting over four hours, with six losses in six encounters under such circumstances.
