Alcaraz: "The ATP calendar is too demanding. We need to change that."
Behind the scenes at the ATP 250 in Buenos Aires, Carlos Alcaraz, interviewed by Olé Tenis (Argentine media), shared his thoughts on the needed adjustments to the ATP calendar.
Alcaraz: "The ATP calendar is too demanding. If you kick off your season with the first tournament of the year, you're already leaving on either December 25th or 26th. And you don't wrap up until the start of December the following year. That's nearly a year of back-to-back tournaments and travel.
It's too demanding. I'm not sure if there's a solution, possibly not making as many tournaments mandatory (for Top 30 players, the 4 Grand Slams, 8 out of the 9 Masters 1000, 2 or 3 ATP 500 and 1 or 2 ATP 250 are obligatory).
It's a fact that it's overly prolonged. And, ultimately, it significantly involves the athletes' health, who have to perform at the peak level for such a elongated period, tournament after tournament. I believe we have to modify that."
