Alcaraz: "The ATP schedule is too demanding. Something needs to change."
On the sidelines of the ATP 250 in Buenos Aires, Carlos Alcaraz, interviewed by Olé Tenis (Argentinian media), gave his thoughts on the necessary changes needed for the ATP calendar.
Alcaraz: "The ATP schedule is too demanding. If you start your season with the first tournament of the year, you are already leaving on the 25th or 26th of December. And you do not finish until the beginning of the following December. It's almost a year of non-stop tournaments and traveling.
It's too demanding. I don't know if there is a solution, perhaps not making so many tournaments obligatory (For the Top 30, the 4 Grand Slams, 8 of the 9 Masters 1000, 2 or 3 ATP 500, and 1 or 2 ATP 250 are obligatory).
It's true that it's too long. And, ultimately, it also heavily affects the health of the athletes, who have to perform at the highest level for so long, tournament after tournament. I think we need to change this."
