Alcaraz: "The worst match of my career. Impossible to win".
Carlos Alcaraz lost his opening match in Cincinnati on Friday. Seeded no. 2 in the tournament, where he reached the final last year, he was dominated in three sets (4-6, 7-6, 6-4) by Gael Monfils. And to say the least, the Spaniard didn't have the best of tennis sensations against the Frenchman. He told us after the match.
Carlos Alcaraz: "It was really difficult for me. It felt like the worst match I've ever played in my career. I honestly couldn't play. I'd done some good training here in the days leading up to the tournament, I felt good, I was hitting the ball well and moving well. But on Center Court, I felt like I was playing another sport.
The balls were faster and bounced a lot more than on the other courts. I warmed up before the match, but it was a totally different feeling, I don't know why. And frankly, I don't know what happened, I don't know why I felt like that. This match was unwinnable, that's all."
