Carlos Alcaraz will not return to competition before August.

The world No. 2 will take a period of rest and has decided not to participate in the Toronto Masters 1000. Last year, he skipped the Montreal tournament after playing in the Olympic final.

As reported by Marca, he will not pick up his racket again until July 28, when he begins his preparation for the Cincinnati Masters 1000 (August 7-18).

Following the withdrawals of Sinner, Djokovic, and Draper, a third top 5 player will be missing in Canada. The draw is likely to be more open than ever.

Usually we watch Montreal and the following hard court tournaments as a warm up to the USO. It appears no point in watching Montreal at all. I wonder how much these venues lose when the top players, the crowd favorites to watch, all drop out. Seems there should be some significant penalty in contract for dropping out for any reason not related to health.

I propose the following changes to the rules:

1...a walķover will not be a loss. We have no control of player's health. If he or she is entered in a contest we expect them to play.

2...an incomplete match is not a loss. If a player forfeits we pick another match if there are more to choose.

3...this also applies if TT cancels a match. TT will not take hours to decide an outcome.

It's a shame that so many matches are being canceled. TT ,you are destroying your game ,and thereby killing your app. I don't know how many matches others have had canceled , but I'm at 3 and it's only thursday.
