Alexandrova joins Swiatek: final between the top two seeds in Seoul

Ekaterina Alexandrova reached the final of the Seoul tournament after a convincing victory over Katerina Siniakova. The Russian secures a gala final against Iga Swiatek in the Korean capital.
Iga Swiatek was waiting to find out who her opponent in the final of the WTA 500 tournament in Seoul would be. The world number 2, who won two matches on Saturday against Barbora Krejcikova and Maya Joint, knows she will face either Katerina Siniakova or Ekaterina Alexandrova, the number 2 seed. The world number 11 is having a very good season.
The Russian, who won the WTA 500 tournament in Linz in February, made her entry into the round of 16 against Loïs Boisson (4-6, 6-2, 6-2) before defeating Ella Seidel (6-2, 6-3) in the quarters.
This time, it was Siniakova, coming from the qualifiers, who stood in her way. It was the eighth encounter between the two women, but the first since 2020. Before the match, Alexandrova led with four victories to three, suggesting a closely contested match.
However, the reality on the court was different. Despite a close first set, Alexandrova managed to take the lead. Despite a reaction from the Czech at the start of the second set that allowed her to lead 2-0, the Russian quickly regained control and won the last six games to claim victory (6-4, 6-2 in 1h40).
This is Alexandrova's 41st win of the season, qualifying her for her third final of the season where she will face Swiatek for the title. It will be the eighth confrontation between the Polish player and the Russian. So far, Swiatek leads 5-2, having won the two matches between the two women in 2025: in Bad Homburg and then at the US Open, each time in two sets.
But the Wimbledon champion will need to be cautious, as Alexandrova's two victories were on hard courts, at the Melbourne tournament in 2021 and in Miami last year, each time with the same score of 6-4, 6-2.
