Daniel Altmaier secured his first-round victory against the No. 16 seed, Félix Auger-Aliassime (7-6, 6-3). The world No. 83 wrapped up the match in 1 hour and 59 minutes.
Auger-Aliassime, on the other hand, led early in both sets before losing his momentum. The Canadian failed to capitalize on his opportunities, committing a total of 16 unforced errors throughout the match. In the second set, the 24-year-old notably lost five consecutive games.
The German had come through qualifying by defeating Munar (7-5, 3-6, 7-5) and Herbert (7-6, 6-3). This marks his first career win in the main draw of Monte-Carlo.
Altmaier will now face Richard Gasquet for a place in the Round of 16.
