Andreeva reflects on her training session with Gauff in Rome: "It was a good opportunity to understand what I did wrong in Madrid"

Mirra Andreeva and Coco Gauff will face each other in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 in Rome. The two young players had already clashed at the same stage of the competition in Madrid (7-5, 6-1 in favor of the American), and Andreeva, who has never beaten Gauff in the past, hopes to avenge that loss from their encounter in the Spanish capital.
In recent days, before their entry into the Italian tournament, the two players even trained together, with the goal of meeting again in the quarterfinals.
Strong since their first meeting in the second round, Gauff and Andreeva have held their ground and will now battle for a spot in the semifinals. The 18-year-old player reflected on their joint training session and hopes it will help her in the match.
"I wanted to practice with her, and I think Coco wanted it too, so for me, it was a good opportunity to understand and see, maybe, what I missed or did wrong in Madrid during the match I played against her.
For me, it was also a little lesson, and I probably tried to understand more about how she plays, so that the next time we face each other, it might be easier," Andreeva, currently ranked 3rd in the Race, told the media outlet Championnat.
