Andreeva, Youngest Top 5 Since Sharapova
With the latest WTA rankings update, tennis prodigy Mirra Andreeva has climbed to No. 5. A remarkable achievement for the 18-year-old, who has become the youngest player to reach this position since Sharapova.
Indeed, her compatriot was only 17 when she entered the top 5 in November 2004 after winning the WTA Finals. She later lived up to expectations by claiming the world No. 1 spot the following year.
For now, Andreeva appears to be following in the footsteps of the greats, having reached her second consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinal and her third in her last six major appearances. She has also claimed WTA 1000 titles in Indian Wells and Dubai this season.
