Anisimova Defeats Sabalenka to Reach Her First Wimbledon Final
Anisimova faced Sabalenka in the Wimbledon semifinals. The American led their head-to-head (5-3) but had lost their most recent encounter (fourth round at Roland Garros).
Despite break opportunities (0/4), Sabalenka failed to gain the upper hand, dropping the first set (4-6). Struggling with her serve, the Belarusian showed great resilience, significantly improving her first-serve efficiency (84% of points won) to level the match in the next set (6-4).
However, it wasn’t enough. Troubled by the American’s varied play, the world No. 1 eventually succumbed after a 2-hour, 36-minute battle (6-4, 4-6, 6-4).
Anisimova did give herself a scare when, serving for the match at 5-3, she lost her service game after dropping six straight points. Yet, after an exceptional final game, the world No. 12 secured her place in her first-ever Wimbledon final.
For the tournament’s legendary trophy, she will face the winner of the Swiatek vs. Bencic match.
