Anisimova wins her first WTA 1000 in Doha!

Amanda Anisimova triumphed in Doha on Saturday, winning the first WTA 1000 of her career at the expense of Jelena Ostapenko in the final (6-3, 6-3).
Diligent and solid from the first point to the last, Anisimova was oblivious to the interruptions caused by the rain and the capricious Doha wind to dominate an opponent who wasn't exactly in her mood.
The start of the match set the tone for this one-sided final, with the 41st-ranked player in the world threatening Ostapenko in her very first service game and earning a break point, but to no avail.
But in the next game, after an initial interruption due to rain, the American managed to capitalize on her fourth opportunity.
The break that followed could have been a wake-up call for the Latvian, but it was not to be.
Anisimova, serious and unflappable, regained the lead at the best of times (5-4) and went on to win the first set.
And it was after a second break at 3-3 in the second set, following another downpour, that the 23-year-old made the break that would take her to the biggest title of her career.
On Monday, she will climb to a career-high ranking of 18th in the world.
Ostapenko, for her part, was defeated for the second time in her career in Doha after 2016 and missed out on her final, a far cry from yesterday's semi-final against Iga Swiatek.
