Arthur Fils withdraws from the Cincinnati Masters 1000
Despite his return to Canada last week, it seems Arthur Fils won’t be able to continue. Withdrawing from Cincinnati, the young French player will miss the final Masters 1000 before the US Open.
Absent from the courts since his second-round match against Munar at Roland-Garros, the 22-year-old wanted to take his time and not rush his comeback. He was suffering from a stress fracture in his back, a very complicated injury to manage.
While his appearance in Toronto, where he played two singles matches and two doubles matches, had brought smiles back to French fans, they will have to wait once again to see the world No. 21 in action.
The only good news: he will be replaced by his compatriot Arthur Cazaux, who lost in the second round of qualifying to Argentina’s Tirante (7-6, 6-3) but has ultimately been given a lucky loser spot.
