As retirement approaches, Garcia prepares for the Cincinnati tournament
Caroline Garcia is living her final weeks as a professional player.
The 31-year-old Frenchwoman has not played since May, when she was eliminated in the first round of Roland-Garros. She will make her return to competition during the American tour, having decided to play the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati before the US Open, which is expected to be the final tournament of her career.
She posted a training video this Thursday, stating she was "getting ready" with "her favorite coach, Bertrand Perret."
Currently ranked 199th in the world this week, she will likely receive a wildcard from the tournament organizers.
For context, Garcia won the tournament in 2022, defeating Maria Sakkari, Jessica Pegula, Aryna Sabalenka, and Petra Kvitova along the way. A strong run that was followed by a semifinal appearance at the US Open.
