At 19, Tien is performing almost as well as Alcaraz and Sinner against the top 10
Discovered by the general public in Melbourne, the young American star continues to impress the tour: Tien is already accustomed to victories against the world's best players.
While Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner overwhelmingly dominate the rest of the top 10 this season, another player is also comfortable facing the ATP tour's elite. That player is Learner Tien, 19 years old, who is experiencing his first full season on the main tour.
Revealed during the Australian Open where he reached the second week, the young American continues his steady progress and this week finds himself in the semifinals of the ATP 500 in Beijing.
He benefited from Lorenzo Musetti's withdrawal in the quarterfinals, thus recording his fifth victory this season against a top 10 member.
With his 5-2 record against the top 10 this year, Tien is therefore only surpassed by Alcaraz (12) and Sinner (8). Musetti and Davidovich Fokina are the two other players who have five victories against the top 10 in 2025.
