At 34, Dimitrov has the most retirements in Grand Slams since 1968
Forced to retire in the Wimbledon round of 16 against Sinner, Dimitrov once again left a Major prematurely. A familiar occurrence for the Bulgarian, this marks his 5th retirement in the last five Majors he has played.
At 34, the 2017 ATP Finals winner holds the record for the most retirements in Grand Slams since the Open Era began (10). He ranks ahead of Serbians Tipsarevic (8) and Djokovic (7), as well as Frenchman Llodra and South African Ferreira, each with seven retirements.
Additionally, this is only the 4th time since 1968 that a player has been forced to retire in a Grand Slam while leading 2 sets to 0. The last instance was Belgian Darcis against Serra at the 2012 Australian Open (7-6, 6-3, 4-5, ret.).
