"To learn how to slide, I mostly watched Carlos, Jannik, and Novak," says Swiatek about her evolution on grass
Although Swiatek is not usually a big fan of grass, it seems that she has found the solutions to tame the surface. In an interview with Punto de Break, the Polish player revealed that she was inspired by certain players to handle sliding:
"There are times when it's impossible to slide: if you're late to the ball, you don't have time to make those small adjustment steps. So initially, I probably tried it unsuccessfully. To slide, you always depend a bit on your intuition, even though in my case, I was never clear on when I should slide.
That's when I started to watch other players, especially Carlos, Jannik, and Novak. I always observed how they managed. In the end, it's possible to do it, but you need to have a lot of confidence to achieve it. I think it’s also because I’ve never played as many matches on grass as I have this year."
Solid in her early rounds at Wimbledon, the 24-year-old player will face Russian Samsonova for a place in the semi-finals, the first of her career.
