At this point in my career, being world No. 1 matters little to me," says Sabalenka after successfully starting her campaign at Roland-Garros

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka comfortably advanced to the second round of Roland-Garros, dropping just one game against her opponent Kamilla Rakhimova (6-0, 6-1).
After her victory, the Belarusian appeared at a press conference to discuss her ranking and what it currently means to her:
"In 2023, I was No. 1 for a very short period. I think it was a week, or two. But honestly, I don't think about the rankings. Obviously, it has always been my goal to be No. 1, but at this point in my career, being No. 1 or not matters little to me.
You have to focus more on your game, on how to improve every day. It doesn’t matter if you’re No. 1 or No. 2. You have to go on the court, fight, play your best tennis, and win day after day. That's my approach. I don't have more pressure on my shoulders or expectations than when I was No. 2 or No. 10.
