ATP Paris: In Pain, Zverev Qualifies for the Round of 16
Trailing 1-3 in the deciding set, Alexander Zverev found the resources of a champion to overturn Camilo Ugo Carabelli after a thrilling 2-hour 34-minute duel.
This Wednesday afternoon, Alexander Zverev, world No. 3 and defending champion at the Paris Masters 1000, avoided an upset. Trailing 1-3 in the deciding set, the German champion managed to overcome a solid Camilo Ugo Carabelli, who was ultimately defeated 6-7(5), 6-1, 7-5 after a 2-hour 34-minute battle.
This victory marks Zverev's sixth consecutive win in Paris and his 52nd of the season. However, it wasn't all straightforward. After losing the first set in a tie-break, Zverev seemed to regain his composure, cruising through the second set.
But it was in the third set that the battle intensified. Facing a very strong Argentine, the German had to rely on his serve and his quality of return. Next obstacle now: Davidovich Fokina or Arthur Cazaux.
