Auger-Aliassime looks back on his collaboration with Toni Nadal: "I had a great 2022 season thanks to him"
Félix Auger-Aliassime is currently ranked 29th in the world, a far cry from the 6th place he reached in July 2022.
2022, the year in which he came within a set of beating Rafael Nadal in the Round of 16 at Roland Garros.
Prior to that, he had also reached the semi-finals of the 2021 US Open, before reaching the quarter-finals in Melbourne in early 2022.
It was also confirmation of the success of his collaboration with Toni Nadal, the uncle of a certain Rafael, who, for the first time in his career, was present in the box of another tour player.
But the results didn't follow and the Canadian quickly fell down the rankings, unable to reproduce the results achieved in 2021 and 2022.
As a guest on the Tennis Slice podcast, he looked back on the end of this association, which was not as fruitful as might have been imagined:
"Our separation happened organically. I'm not one to say 'I work for this person' or 'It's over', because you never know in life.
I haven't seen him since (their collaboration was put on hold in March 2024), but we were in touch during the season. I have immense respect for him.
He helped me in many areas and I had a great 2022 season thanks to him."
