Azarenka concerned about the new generation: "It will be much harder for them to have a career as long as mine"
Winner against Camila Osorio in her opening match in Rome, Victoria Azarenka will face Magdalena Frech in the next round.
Meanwhile, the 35-year-old player and former world No. 1 took the time to discuss the evolution of tennis, calling for changes:
"I’m not worried for myself, but rather for the young players. It will be much harder for them to have a career as long as mine, to play more than twenty years on the tour. Starting from that, there should be a conversation about how the balls have changed and evolved over the years, as well as the surfaces.
I just want to see our sport grow. I really want tennis to do well. This sport has given me so much, and I want it to keep growing, to remain a dominant sport for women. There are many other sports emerging and competing. We also need to keep making progress."
