Badosa withdraws from the Eisenhower Cup and raises concerns ahead of Indian Wells
The biggest stars of world tennis will gather in California over the next ten days. The Indian Wells tournament will begin on March 5.
Before the main event kicks off, a mixed doubles tournament will be held on Tuesday, March 4, featuring eight doubles pairs, played in a single-elimination format with super tie-breaks.
Among them, the pair of Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas was set to participate. Unfortunately, the Spanish player, who suffered a back injury during the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 in Mérida last week, was forced to withdraw in Mexico and has not yet fully recovered.
The official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Indian Wells tournament confirmed that the world No. 10 player has withdrawn from this event, without specifying for now whether the Australian Open semifinalist from earlier this season will be able to compete in the main draw of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells.
In recent days, Badosa provided an update on her physical condition on social media, stating that she would do everything possible to return to the court as soon as possible.
Exempt from the first round as a seeded player, the 2021 champion of the California tournament will enter the fray, if her participation is confirmed in the coming hours, against Caroline Dolehide or Kamilla Rakhimova.
