Belinda Bencic won the WTA 500 tournament in Abu Dhabi last week. It was her first title as a mother.
As of Monday, she is ranked 65th in the WTA rankings, having climbed 92 places thanks to this title. A fine achievement for the Swiss, who had only returned to competition 4 months earlier, at the end of October.
She declares: "We are very grateful and blessed to have Bella (her daughter) in our lives.
And also to keep doing what I want to do. And also, to have good results. So the emotions were incredible.
It gives you a lot of confidence. Obviously, on television, it's always different.
You don't really see the effect or the weight of the ball as much. I have the impression that on TV, it's also a bit faster than in real life.
And that also has something to do with the way I move and my physical preparation.
I have high expectations of myself, I have dreams and goals. But I have to say that I've basically won in life.
I'm here in the tournaments and I feel much more relaxed. I feel I can play a little more liberated and with less pressure on myself.
I feel like I've always been the one who got in the way a bit by trying to do too well.
So, right now, I'm working a lot and I feel like I can still do more, but even if I don't, it doesn't matter."
Bencic has decided to skip the Doha tournament, but will be present in Dubai the following week.
