Berrettini Joins the List of Withdrawals for the Munich Tournament
Matteo Berrettini has had a strong start to the season on the ATP Tour. After struggling with injuries in recent years, the Italian is making a comeback in 2025.
Having defeated Novak Djokovic in Doha, the former world No. 6 also reached the quarterfinals of a Masters 1000 event—specifically in Miami—for the first time in four years.
During the Monte-Carlo tournament, he continued his return to top form by defeating world No. 2 Alexander Zverev in the second round.
However, the current world No. 34 will not be able to keep the momentum going. Initially scheduled to compete in next week’s ATP 250 tournament in Munich, Berrettini ultimately withdrew just hours before the draw.
His withdrawal benefits Mariano Navone, who now enters the main draw directly. If there is another last-minute withdrawal, Benjamin Bonzi will take the spot in the main draw.
Berrettini’s withdrawal is another blow to the Bavarian tournament’s organization, following injury-related pullouts from Taylor Fritz (abdominal strain) and Hubert Hurkacz (still suffering from a back issue since Indian Wells).
