Berrettini savors his victory against De Minaur: "The way I won this match means a lot to me"

For the first time since the 2021 Madrid tournament, Matteo Berrettini will compete in the quarterfinals of a Masters 1000 event. Solid in this Miami tournament, the Italian, ranked 30th in the world, eliminated Alex De Minaur (6-3, 7-6) and will face Taylor Fritz for a spot in the semifinals.
After his win, the 2021 Wimbledon finalist reflected on his victory against the Australian and believes it’s a win that can help him regain maximum confidence.
"This victory means a lot to me. It shows that I’ve worked hard on and off the court, and that I’m happy with what I’m doing. If I’m not happy, I can’t achieve the results I want. I’m very proud of myself, my team, and my family.
It’s good, but I want to go even further. The way I won this match means a lot to me. I won the second set, then lost it, then won it again (Berrettini served for the match, then De Minaur led 6-3 in the tiebreak).
Alex defended like I’ve never seen anyone do before, I pushed myself to the limit and fought for every point. I told myself I had to be aggressive and do what was necessary. I thought losing while doing the right thing was better than losing with regrets," he told Super Tennis.
