"Beyond the defeat, I loved this moment," Humbert reflects on his loss to Monfils
Ugo Humbert fell to Gaël Monfils in five sets on Tuesday in the first round of Wimbledon.
After his defeat, speaking to *L’Équipe*, Humbert was full of praise for his opponent: "Beyond the defeat, I loved this moment. Playing Gaël, in five sets... I loved the mindset we both had.
The embrace was to congratulate him. We’ve played each other many times. He’s one of the players I’ve faced the most. He’s always been kind to me since I was very young.
I grew up watching him play. Experiencing this with him makes me very happy. You have to accept that he was better than me today."
