Binaghi approaching Rome: "We are the ones to beat, that's how it is and I would have never dreamed of it"
The Rome Masters 1000 is eagerly anticipated for two reasons: the tournament will be held for the first time at the Stadio dei Marmi where three new courts are under construction, including the new SuperTennis Arena. But also for the return of Jannik Sinner, after his 3-month suspension by WADA.
In an interview shared by Tennis World Italia, Angelo Binaghi, President of the Italian Tennis Federation since 2001, discussed the new developments in the tournament, as well as expectations regarding local players:
"We have built this magnificent new stadium inside the Stadio dei Marmi dedicated to Mennea. So everything will be new. Everything is more beautiful, everything is bigger. We hope to win, we haven't done so in men's or women's singles for about 50 years. It could be a good opportunity, but we must not put too much pressure on ourselves.
We are the ones to beat, today, that's how it is and I would have never dreamed of it. No one, not even the greatest tennis experts, would have ever thought that we could achieve half or a third of what our boys and girls managed to do last year, it's incredible."
