Bitter end to the season for Mpetshi Perricard, beaten by world number 222 in Metz

Overpowered by Vitaliy Sachko after a first set lost in a tie-break, the Frenchman ends a lackluster season, falling far short of the expectations placed on him after a promising start to the year.

The 2025 season ends on a sour note for Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. Eliminated in the first round in Basel and then in Paris, the Frenchman stumbled again in Metz, beaten by Vitaliy Sachko, a lucky loser and world number 222.

After a tight first set where he missed two set points in the tie-break, the player from Lyon lost the thread of his game, losing 7-6, 6-3 in 1 hour and 32 minutes.

This defeat concludes a difficult year for the 22-year-old player, who recorded 17 wins against 26 losses. His best performances remain two semi-finals, in Brisbane and Winston-Salem.

Now close to dropping out of the top 50, Mpetshi Perricard will need to adjust his game and find consistency if he wants to become a genuine threat on the tour again in 2026.
