BJK Cup - Garcia Explains Herself: "I Wanted to Play, But I Didn’t See How I Could Help the Team"

The French Billie Jean King Cup team endured a tough week in Vilnius, marked by their elimination against Belgium and Clara Burel’s serious injury.
Following this, Julien Benneteau expressed his dissatisfaction with his players. In an interview with *L’Équipe*, Caroline Garcia defended herself.
"I wanted to play—I didn’t come to Vilnius to sit on the bench. I shared my doubts and feelings with Julien because I didn’t feel capable of playing singles or doubles, at least not at first.
"I’ve played Fed Cup for over ten years, and I’ve often left a piece of myself on the court. This time, it was impossible—I didn’t see how I could help the team. I can understand Julien’s frustration. That’s just how sports go."
Suffering from a back injury, Garcia has withdrawn from this week’s WTA tournament in Rouen.
