BJK Cup: Japan Defeats Canada in Thriller, Becomes Penultimate Qualifier for Finals

The outcome of Group A in the BJK Cup qualifiers was decided this Sunday. The scenario was straightforward, with everything coming down to the clash between Canada and Japan on this third and final day.
Both teams, having already defeated an already-eliminated Romania, needed to win this match to secure their spot in the 2025 Final 8 in Shenzhen.
In the first singles match, Victoria Mboko edged out Ena Shibahara in a nail-biter lasting 2 hours and 45 minutes (6-4, 6-7, 7-5). Just one step away from qualification, Canada then saw their opponents level the score. With their backs against the wall, Moyuka Uchijima delivered a flawless performance to defeat Marina Stakusic (6-3, 6-3).
The decisive doubles match ultimately determined the winner between the two nations. In this crucial showdown, the Asian pair of Ena Shibahara and Shuko Aoyama proved stronger against Rebecca Marino and Kayla Cross (6-3, 5-7, 6-2).
After an intense battle, Japan secured its place in China this September. With Japan's qualification, only one spot remains for the finals.
Indeed, China (host nation) and Italy (defending champions) had already qualified automatically. Throughout the weekend, several other nations booked their tickets on the court: Kazakhstan, Spain, Ukraine, Great Britain, and now Japan.
The final spot will be contested between the United States and Slovakia, both having defeated Denmark, as they face off in the coming hours.
