Despite a perfect start to the match, Benjamin Bonzi failed to keep up with the returning Jenson Brooksby, who secured the victory in a suspenseful finish (1-6, 7-5, 7-5).
After winning the first set with a double break and 28 minutes of play, Bonzi may regret his lack of efficiency on break points (4 out of 15 converted), especially in the third set, where he led 40-0 at 5-5 on Brooksby's serve.
Later, after missing four opportunities to serve for the match, the Frenchman cracked on his serve, sending a final volley out of bounds on the American's first match point.
A great victory for Brooksby, who wins his first ATP Tour match since the 2023 Australian Open. He will face Félix Auger-Aliassime in the next round.
