Fonseca victorious in his debut at Indian Wells
Joao Fonseca passed the first round of the Indian Wells Masters 1000 this Thursday after a hard-fought victory over Jacob Fearnley (6-2, 1-6, 6-3).
Comfortable with the playing conditions and the wind blowing early in the day, Fonseca delivered an impeccable first set, executing some winning shots that only he seems to master.
However, things got complicated for the Brazilian afterward, as he made more errors and saw Fearnley level the match at one set apiece. The Brit even took control in the third set, leading 3-1 with a break in hand.
But Fonseca wasn't done yet, as he rallied to win five consecutive games and secure the victory on the center court.
A challenging first match (34 unforced errors to 17 winners), but ultimately a win for the world No. 80, who will face Jack Draper in the next round.
