Bonzi Inherits Fearnley, Manageable First Round for Moutet and Muller in Miami
After the conclusion of the qualifying rounds for the Miami Masters 1000, players who drew qualifiers in the first round now know their opponents. Three Frenchmen were involved in the men's draw.
First, Benjamin Bonzi. The world No. 63, who was placed at the very top of the main draw, will face Jacob Fearnley in his opening match. The British player, ranked 83rd in the ATP, defeated Boogaard and then Boyer in straight sets during the qualifiers. The winner of this match will face Alexander Zverev, the world No. 2 and top seed, in the second round.
As for Corentin Moutet, he will aim for a spot in the second round against Alejandro Tabilo. Before that, he will need to overcome Alexander Blockx, a Belgian player ranked 163rd in the world. To enter the main draw, Blockx defeated Otto Virtanen in three sets and then Terence Atmane in straight sets.
Finally, Alexandre Muller, who has already played two finals this season and won a title in Hong Kong, will challenge the 18-year-old Japanese player Rei Sakamoto, ranked 330th in the world. Sakamoto defeated Majchrzak and Duckworth to earn his place in the main draw.
If successful, Muller, who reached his career-high ranking this year (41st), will face Francisco Cerundolo, against whom the Frenchman has never lost in two previous encounters.
